Did You Know Tuesday
Did you know that it was 111 years ago (1898) on February 15 that the USS Maine sank in Havana Harbor, Cuba? This sinking precipitated the start of the Spanish-American War.

An explosion near the front turret sank the ship. An inquiry has determined that something caused a magazine storage to explode, causing the explosion. The report has said that a naval mine caused this, but speculation that this was the cause remains to this day.

A memorial to the crew of the USS Maine can be found, not in Maine, but in Central Park in New York City.

I've passed by that statue in Central Park tons of times and never knew what it was honoring. Thanks!
